Imagine on stage five instruments that span the history of the keyboard since the 18th century: a harpsichord, an Anton Walter pianoforte from the 1780s, an Alois Graf from the start of the 19th century, an Erard from some 30 years later, and a Steinway from the mid-20th century.

Now imagine a single musician, Alexander Melnikov, exploring all the different techniques and styles of play possible on each of these marvellous instruments, offering us a true voyage through musical time.  After a series of four-hand concerts in 2015/16 with Andreas Staier, devoted to Shostakovich and Schubert, Alexander Melnikov returns to the Dijon Opera with a programme highlighting the greatest masters of keyboard music, from Bach, Mozart and Schubert to Chopin, Brahms and Scriabin…
