Monteverdi’s Il combattimento di Trancredi e Clorinda is a work whose theatricality and unique dramatic and musical power make it impossible to classify, resting midway between madrigal, pocket opera and intermezzo.

For this work, which closes the Monteverdi cycle launched in 2011/12, Jos van Immerseel (harpsichord and organ) and his ensemble Anima Eterna Brugge join forces with mezzo-soprano Marianne Beate Kielland, and the father & son tenors Christoph & Julian Prégardien, unforgettable as Tamino in last season’s Magic Flute at the Dijon Opera.
