A high-level encounter between the elite of British ensembles, the most humanly endearing of legends of modern piano, and the most imperial of concertos! The Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields and Nelson Freire take the Dijon stage with Beethoven and his joyous 5thpiano concerto, where its fever, energy and heroism open up to the most intense spiritual and melancholic mediation. For subsequent generations, this concerto would become one of the most striking examples of the Beethovian genius, and its rich invention a source of inspiration throughout the future history of the genre. While the Second symphony is today considered more classical in style, it is a contemporary score in which we already find the explosive raw power of the composer’s iconoclastic character.
