BOULANGER Three pieces for cello and piano

In this programme alluding to the performances of Carmen to come in the month of May, the cellist Astrig Siranossian and the pianist Nathanaël Guoin propose a playful escapade into the repertoire and transcriptions for their two instruments in French music from 1871 to 1948. On a transcription of Jeux d’enfants, in which Bizet explores the world of childhood with all the sensitivity and art of characterisation displayed in his lyric masterpiece, the two musicians gather a delicate bouquet of refined compositions in which we also find Ravel, Faure and Poulenc. Add to this the Three pieces by Nadia Boulanger, a rare and concentrated score by a composer of immense talent who stopped all creation upon the death of her sister Lily in 1914. She would from then on devote herself to teaching and would become a remarkable and highly influential figure in 20th century music.
