Il Diluvio universale
L. García Alarcón | Cappella Mediterranea
ENSEMBLE & ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE
CHAMBER CHOIR OF NAMUR
CONDUCTOR Leonardo García Alarcón
For a long time, Falvetti was just another name on an extensive list of 17th century composers whose music had been lost. That changed in September 2010 at the Festival of Ambronay, where Leonardo García Alarcón performed this recently rediscovered Diluvio Universeale: thanks to the exceptional quality of this majestic score, Falvetti is today recognized as one the greatest composers of his time, with a growing audience eager to discover more about this minor chapel master from Messina. The biblical story of the flood, the basis of the libretto for this oratorio, obviously lends itself perfectly to a particularly dramatic musical approach: the rising waters and the terrors of men delivered to the waves are painted with prodigious effectiveness. Once again, the Cappella Mediterranea and its director unearth a masterpiece lost and forgotten for more than three centuries.
