about

N.N.N.N., orchestra without instruments

A genius of all trades, William Forsythe loves nothing better than to juxtapose neoclassic dance with experimentation – and embedding new media as an integral part of his choreographic work. Always in supple mobility, his language is fed by the body’s impulses and resonances. His quartet N.N.N.N. is a chamber orchestra without instruments, whose sounds are produced by the dancers: soft impacts, clicks and clacks, groans and cries. Throughout the piece, the dancers tune up like cogs in a well-orchestrated mechanism, one that is also well-oiled by occasional clownish touches.

Quintett, structuralism and disequilibrium

Virtuosity of disequilibrium, stretching to the extreme, Quintett marks a new milestone in the structuralist choreographies of Forsythe. On the stage, a projector illuminates an open trap door. Two dancers emerge, seeking to escape into an aerial world, despite the intervention of three other dancers who engage them in a savage struggle. An infinitely repetitive work where empathetic emotion gives way to the music of Gavin Bryars.

One Flat Thing, reproduced, spirit (and body) - olympics

One Flat Thing, reproduced, nicknamed William Forsythe’s Olympics, brings to the stage the power of movement in skilfully orchestrated disorder: a savage passage through large platforms turned into rafts or habitable surfaces between heaven and earth. Becoming objects within the system, the dancers cast about on these platforms, offering multiple points of view on this strange rampage.
